I don't know about all of you, but I've been seriously wondering about recycling and the environmentally friendliness of the processes. I'm currently looking up more info of which I'll share later. Here's an article to get you started thinking about the issue.
How might it apply to us as Greater Lafayette citizens?
Knowing more about recycling, what are your thoughts on whether or not recycling should be done?

Even though the current process of recycling and the technology being used now may be ineffienct, the IDEA and the GOAL of recycling is very respectable. Why should we only use resources once? Materials can be used several times for different purposes for several different people over time. That's a beautiful thing! It is true that our methods need to be updated. I believe things can be improved with inovation and time. : )
ReplyDeleteRecycling is just a partial remediation of a greater problem. Instead of recycling a plastic bottle it would have been better for the environment if you didn't buy the plastic bottle in the first place. For example the plastic water bottles scattered in the stands after the football games. We pick them up and recycle them, but why not just go to the drinking fountain and get a drink of tap water?

Wow, I totally agree with you Nick. Reducing and Reusing are a lot more important than Recycling. (Thats why they are listed in that order!)
ReplyDeleteAwesome comments guys! Keep it up! :-D
ReplyDeleteThe West Lafayette Recycling center is a good place to drop off recyclables. It is just off South River Road not far from State St. If you are driving by anyway drop off your paper, glass bottles, plastic bottles, cans. It is open all day and night. You don’t have to live in West Lafayette to use it.
